My Contribution to My Learning and Learning Community

EDLD 5315

Grade 95/100

As I complete the coursework in my M.Ed. in Applied Digital Learning program, there is a great sense of relief and accomplishment. I feel I have grown exponentially in my learning and in my abilities as an educator. I look to the future when I can utilize my Innovation Plan to create a Blended Learning classroom and be more of a mentor and coach than being the "Sage on the stage." I have always believed that learners had to take responsibility for their own education.  This is what the ADL program has forced me to do. Growing up and working in the traditional model of education developed by Thorndike, I was, as a student, and do as a teacher have the expectation of giving back to my teachers, and getting back from my students what I expected. The ADL program has forced me to take responsibility for my learning and for that I am truly thankful. It is my wish that I can impart that same sense into my learners by using CSLE+COVA (Harapnuik and Thibodeaux 2018). The integration of all that I have learned is just the beginning of this new leg of my journey. I wish to take my learners on that journey as well.

I assigned myself a 95/ 100 for EDLD 5315-Assessing Digital Learning and Instruction-because I feel I did some of my best work in this course. This course has shown me how and what I can do to ensure that me learners are learning and I am teaching in ways that are hopefully most effective. In creating my Action Research Design Outline, based on the work of Mertler (2020), I learned how to formulate a proper action research question and consider the elements that need to be present for the action research to be effective.  My Literature Review   was developed with my action research topic and question in mind. This helped me to focus the direction of my study and the resources I could use to complete it. I believe that my Action Research Plan, was as comprehensive as I could make it at this point in the process.  I understand that all of these documents will require updating and revision as I move through the process of the action research study.

I would like to thanks my the following people for helping me through this stage of the program. Monique Richardson, Cristy Silkin  and Rebecca Chang have been invaluable for their patience, insight, guidance, and support.  It has been a rough semester with quite a bit of family trauma, and they were my support and sounding board to get me through.

1.  What has worked and what can be done better?

By working with my Learning group we have been able to build our e portfolios even more than before. We have been the late night and early morning GroupMe chat messages to remind, ask, and support each other as we developed our learning in the course. Our communication has been the strong point throughout the journey and hopefully as we continue to move forward in our respective plans. I could have been more of a support for them throughout the course- I was not as present as I have been in the past

One of the things that I continue to struggle with is the balance of work/ school/ family during this program.  I have been given increased responsibilities on the PBIS, UDL, A-TSI, and Cultural Proficiency Programs in my school and district. I then have to manage the time that is left between family and the ADL program makes me a very busy person with what seems less time each day.

2.  Contributed to, helped build, and provided feedback to your core collaboration group and revised all assignments and reflected on revisions in this contribution to a learning activity.

In my Core collaboration group, I will admit I took a slightly more passive role and contributed what I could to the group as we worked through the course. I did provide feedback at least once to each member on each requirement, but was not the organizer of the group. I did try to help the "E" group members with their work and adjusting to the requirements of the ADL program guidelines as much as I could.

3.  Completed ALL of the course readings, videos, and supporting resources.

I assigned myself a 95/100 for my overall grade for this course because I did complete all of the readings and videos in this course.

4.  Met the various course activity deadlines indicated in the calendar.

I assigned myself a 95/100 for this course because I met the deadline for all the activity deadlines.  I also did the following:

  • Contributed to my learning and the learning of my colleagues by participating in ALL activities.
  • Actively contributed in the various course forums.
  • My  posts were submitted in a timely fashion so others can respond to them.
  • I supported my thinking through my APA citations.
  • Additional postings were made that did not require research but were rather to contribute to the learning.

I continue to develop a growth mindset throughout the ADL program and look forward to implementing my Innovation Plan in order to help my students become the learners they need to be in the future.
